Overview

The Dumbo Improvement District was signed into law by Mayor Bloomberg in December 2005 and is entrusted with keeping the community's public spaces, addressing public safety, advocating on behalf of DUMBO to public and private stakeholders, and marketing and promoting the area to attract new visitors and businesses. The boundaries of the Dumbo Improvement District extend from the East River waterfront on the north, Old Fulton Street on the west, York Street on the south, and Bridge Street on the east.

The Dumbo Improvement District is one of 56 business improvement districts in the City of New York. It receives professional support and oversight from the New York City Department of Small Business Services. The Dumbo Improvement District is funded by local commercial property owners, and its budget is used to provide improvements to DUMBO above and beyond services provided by the City. The Improvement District is governed by a 17-member board composed of DUMBO stakeholders.
